Gluten Free Girl about Town

I’m a foodie at heart. I love exploring new restaurants and shops, especially those that cater to individuals with special dietary needs. These are some of my favorite places around Raleigh, North Carolina. Check them out yourself if you’re in the area and see what you think! Revisit this site often as I’m frequently updating my list.

Arepa Culture

It originally started as a food truck and now they also have a restaurant. Handmade Venezuelan arepas are served with tasty fillings. Unlike some popular arepa chain restaurants, this one is 100% gluten free. If you’ve never had an arepa before, it’s like a thin “bread-like” sandwich made with cornmeal. It’s crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I love mine with shredded chicken and veggies.

JuiceKeys

This is a small shop in North Raleigh (Lafayette Village) that makes delicious bowls and smoothies made with nut butters, fruits, vegetables, plant based milks and also tasty mix-in’s. My favorite is the Mint Smoothie made with zucchini instead of banana and their avocado toast that is made with gluten free bread.

SweetTreats

I’m lucky I live close to this amazing find. All of their cupcakes are gluten free (exception is the one that has an Oreo cookie in the top). They are really the tastiest gluten free cupcake I’ve ever had. They are light and airy instead of dense like many gluten free desserts. They are usually only open on Thursdays-Saturdays. You can also special order gluten free cakes. I had one made for my son’s birthday and it was amazing!

Bella Monica

This is a local favorite in Raleigh for people who love Italian food. What I love about them is that they have so many options for gluten free patrons. They even have a homemade gluten free foccacia that they serve. I love their eggplant parmesan served over spinach!

Azitra

I love authentic Indian food and Azitra does not disappoint. Their menu is extraordinary and they clearly mark all items that are gluten free which are plentiful. I’ve never had a bad meal there or ever gotten “glutened”. I love their butter chicken and dal.

Fount

This is a 100% gluten free coffee shop/eatery that has a big following in Morrisville. It doesn’t matter whether your group is gluten free or not, you will love everything. They also have a case of homemade gluten free baked goods each day. I love the loaded avocado toast on locally made Simple Kneads bread and the turmeric latte (no caffeine).

Aladdin’s

This is a good Mediterranean restaurant with a lot of gluten free options that are clearly labeled. It’s also great for a gluten free vegetarian. I love the dawali (grape leaves), lentil soup, and homemade hummus with a lovely plate of raw vegetables. They also have a few gluten free desserts as well.

Bar Taco

This is hands down my favorite California style Mexican restaurant. I love that they exclusively use corn tortillas. Almost everything is gluten free including their lightly bread fish tacos. I also love their Mexican chicken soup and their ahi tuna tacos on lettuce wraps. This is located in North Hills.
